11 Apr 13: "Kylie Sambo from Tennant Creek responds to the expansion of income management to new categories of youth at risk. From July 2013 income management will be compulsorily applied to all people under 25 exiting prison or receiving the "unable to live at home" allowance from Centrelink. Income management "quarantines" 50% of Centrelink income so it can only be spent on items and at stores approved by the government. It was first introduced as part of the racist NT Intervention in 2007 and is now being applied in "trial sites" across the country including Bankstown in Sydney." Maddie Church

National Close the Gap Day saw nearly 100 protesters voice their frustration over Labor’s continuation of "top-down" policies in Northern Territory Aboriginal communities. Blocking the Broadway footpath outside Labor MP Tanya Plibersek’s office, campaigners not only called for the repeal of Stronger Futures but also for the protection of suburbs like Bankstown from being swallowed into the system." 13 Apr 13: "Compulsory income management of disadvantaged welfare recipients was slammed by speakers at a forum at the Bankstown Arts Centre on April 11. The forum, organised by the Say No to Government Income Management: Not in Bankstown, Not Anywhere campaign coalition, attracted about 40 people to hear representatives from unions and Aboriginal, migrant and youth groups call for a campaign to stop the extension of income management from July 1 this year. Income management "disempowers people", John Dowd QC, from the Community Restorative Centre, told the audience. ... "
